Communicable Disease
By law, certain communicable diseases must reported to the Health District. These communicable diseases are usually reported by physicians, laboratories, hospitals and other health providers.
The Clermont County General Health District tracks the communicable disease data received from laboratories, physicians, hospitals and other health care providers. The data is shared with the Ohio Department of Health and is used to determine needs and develop plans to protect the health of the public.
The Health District is responsible for preventing communicable diseases and protecting the publics health. Among the ways this is accomplished is by providing immunizations for vaccine preventable diseases, assuring sanitary conditions in food establishments and providing communicable disease information and education. When a communicable disease occurs, it is the responsibility of the health department to identify the cause and, if indicated, initiate action to prevent the spread of illness to others. If the situation is determined to be an outbreak, the Health District interfaces with the Ohio Department of Health and surrounding health departments in order to stop the spread of illness.
In Clermont County, the highest number of communicable disease reports are usually in the areas of sexually transmitted diseases, Hepatitis C, and enteric illnesses. For a complete listing of communicable diseases and fact sheets see the A-Z index on the CDC website at www.cdc.gov. Please contact us for additional information.
