To make application for a residential plumbing permit for a new home, or an addition, the following outline will help you get started. Contact the appropriate agencies for more details.

1. Zoning

  • Contact the local zoning office in the township where the new home or addition is located. Zoning will advise you on their regulations and let you know if that home can be built at that proposed site.

2. Sewage

  • If the home will have an onsite sewage treatment system you will need to submit an application for approval to construct or repair an onsite sewage treatment system.
  • If the home will be on public sewer contact the appropriate sewer provider.

3. Water

  • If the home will have a well, cistern, hauled water storage tank or spring contact the Clermont County General Health District.
  • If the home will have public water contact the appropriate water purveyor.

4. Building Permit:

5. Plumbing Permit:

  • Make application for a Plumbing Permit. All plumbing contractors must be registered and bonded with the Clermont County General Health District. A plumbing permit application completed and signed by the owner or authorized agent and a isometric drawing of the Plumbing system (drain, waste and vents) is required prior to the issuance of a plumbing permit.
  • A sewer lateral number or a household sewage disposal number is required for each plumbing permit. Plumbing permits will not be issued until any required zoning, sewage, water and building permits are issued.

A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY will be issued by the Building Department when all inspections have been approved. Insist on a occupancy permit at closing, the occupancy permit ensures that your home has met all building requirements from all offices.

Note: A homeowner that will reside in the home may obtain their own plumbing permit.
