Clermont County Public Health wants you to put a lid on it

Batavia, Ohio - Clermont County Public Health (CCPH) is encouraging local children to “put a lid on it” by giving away free bicycle helmets from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. (while supplies last) on Saturday May 7 at the Batavia Township Park, located at 1535 Clough Pike in Batavia. The giveaway will coincide with the East Side Adventure Challenge, an obstacle course and color run that is taking place on the same day in the park.

The helmet giveaway is part of a grant received by Clermont County Public Health. The grant was awarded by Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics through their Put a Lid on It program. The helmet giveaway comes just two days before Bike Helmet Safety Awareness Week, which runs from May 9-21. Since the Put a Lid on It program began in 2011, over 10,000 bike helmets have been given away throughout Ohio. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that 75 percent of bicycle related fatalities among children could be prevented by wearing a helmet.

“We have over 100 helmets to give away, and we will have a team of CCPH staff on site to make sure children are properly sized for the correct helmet”, said Amanda Myers, Operations Manager with Clermont County Public Health. “Kids will also have the opportunity to participate in our helmet safety game to learn why wearing a helmet is so important”, added Myers. Families coming to the park can also participate in the East Side Adventure Challenge Festival until 2:00 p.m. with food, music, inflatable play areas, and family friendly activities.
